The Forces That Shape Your Soul

Beyond Just 'Planets'

In astrology, we stick to the ancient term 'planet' (meaning 'wandering star') to describe all the major moving bodies in our chart. This includes the 'Luminaries'—the Sun and Moon—which act as the King and Queen of the chart. It also includes heavyweights like Pluto (technically a dwarf planet) and mathematical points like the Lunar Nodes. We view them all as distinct energy centers that regulate the flow of your life.

The Actors on the Stage

The simplest way to understand a birth chart is this: The Planets are the Actors. The Zodiac Signs are the Costumes they wear. The Houses are the Stages where they perform. Without the planets, the chart is an empty theater. Your 'Mars' is simply the actor inside you whose job is to take action. Your 'Venus' is the actor whose job is to attract love. We all have the same cast of characters, but they play very different roles for each of us.

The Inner Boardroom

You can also think of your planets as members of a boardroom table inside your head. The Sun is the CEO (Ego), directing the ship. Mercury is the Communications Director. Saturn is the Risk Manager. Sometimes these board members agree (Trines/Sextiles), and sometimes they scream at each other (Squares/Oppositions). The goal of astrology is to get your inner boardroom working in harmony.

Cosmic Dignity

Just like us, planets have places where they feel at home and places where they feel awkward. A planet in its 'Domicile' (Home Sign) flows purely and easily. A planet in a challenging sign is like an actor cast against type—it has to work harder to yield results, but often creates the most interesting and unique performances of all.
